The Story Behind The Music

The Journey

The love of music and singing is my heritage. My grandpa, whom I never met, was a preacher and a singer. My mother dabbled on the piano and sang songs throughout her life. She even led the kids’ choir for a short time, which I was a part of.
Â
I am no stranger to gospel music. My mother LOVED it. Because of this, I have been making up songs since I was 11 years old. I remember running through the backwoods of the family farm, walking on fallen trees, crossing creeks, and running through the fields, just singing whatever came into my head.

I bought my first keyboard at 18. I went through several people for lessons. After all the lessons, I did understand piano theory, but I just couldn’t get the passion to play I ALWAYS wanted to sing. On said keyboard, I did write my first song, and then life just took over. (Just a note: I did get several keyboards throughout the years and then would get rid of them.)
Â
God has a sense of humor, I would say, because one day I got a phone call from the church secretary saying that a gentleman had seen me playing at church one night while he was there and wanted to give me a piano. I took him up on the offer, and from that piano, I wrote several of these songs. I couldn’t just get up and get rid of a piano as easily. LOL! I then moved to Florida and didn't bring a piano with me. The desire for a baby grand was strong and with the help of my cousin Pam we were able to get one. Thus wrote several more songs!
Â
This songwriting journey was witnessed by several people. My children, my husband, family, and friends, all at some point, heard at least one song or version of a song. My daughter was a young child writing on the back of some of my scribbled song writings. My son had to give his opinion on a line or two on his way to dropping him off at elementary school, and my husband just had to listen all the time.
Â
Now we are at the moment when everyone gets to listen to my journey through song. The message is the same throughout all the years.
